Top 5 Myths About Las Vegas

Myth 5: Las Vegas is very expensive and is only affordable by the rich.

Not necessarily. Like most things in life, a Vegas vacation can be expensive if you want it to be. But that doesn't have to be the case! If you plan properly and know how to take advantage of the best deals, it can be very affordable. During slow tourist seasons, normally expensive hotels and airlines run all types of promotions in an effort to win your business. At the same time, you can find a number of coupons for free meals and attractions in various travel magazines and brochures.

If you're a member of discount chains like Sam's Club, you're in for an even better deal! These chains often offer members discounts on hotel accommodations and attractions. For example during special promotions, it's possible to book a 3 night stay for a family of 4 plus a 30 minute helicopter ride for 2 for just $110!!! Check out the travel deals section of our website to learn about these and other deals.

Myth 4: Las Vegas is the home of the mob and mobsters.

Though the mob had an important role in Las Vegas history, this is no longer the case. During the 1930's many of the first casinos where funded by famous gangsters like "Bugsy" Siegel. However, legitimate corporations saw the profit potential and began purchasing properties during the 1960's. This, along with efforts by the federal government, led to the disappearance of the mob in that area shortly after. Today, Las Vegas remains a "mob-free" play ground.

Myth 3: Casinos / gambling are the only attractions in Las Vegas.

Nothing could be further from the truth. Las Vegas has a variety of attractions for people of all interests. Magic shows, roller coasters, and national parks are just some of the things available to visitors. In fact with so many available options, you might want to take a look at the top 10 attractions in Las Vegas. That way you can make the most of your vacation.

Myth 2: Las Vegas NOT family friendly but an adult only destination.

With a name like "Sin City", it's no surprise that Vegas is commonly perceived as an adult only destination. However, this isn't the case. With famous historic sites like the Grand Canyon less than an hour away, along with a variety of family friendly shows and excursions, a trip to Las Vegas is something that the entire family can enjoy!

Myth 1: Prostitution is legal in Las Vegas.

It probably comes as no suprize that this is the #1 Las Vegas myth. "Technically" prostitution is only legal in certain outskirts of the city limits. I say "technically" because it's almost impossible to read any local tourist magazines or brochures without seeing ads for escort services and massage parlors within the city limits. Since this is illegal, however, you may want to use caution. For those willing to travel, there are a few neighboring counties in which prostitution is legal. The closest one, located approximately 60 miles north of Vegas, is Nye County.
